Imagine the impact
of Megalithic
Monuments on the giant screen!
Sarasota, Fla.
- August 23, 2004
-- A local
company is collaborating with renowned large format film producers MacGillivray
Freeman Films to produce a film for IMAX® and other large format theatres
featuring the fascinating early culture of Malta that predates recorded
history. Megalithic Film Development, Ltd., in association with The OTS
Foundation, based in Sarasota, is working with MacGillivray Freeman Films to
bring to life a documentary about the civilization that created stone temples on
Gozo and Malta, islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The temples are the oldest
surviving, freestanding structures on earth.
"New scientific evidence seems to indicate that this early society had
connections to other ancient people, and played a role in the evolution of the
western civilization we know today," said Linda Eneix, president of The OTS
Foundation. "This film will be like a real life DaVinci Code mystery!"
In the film, scripted characters will use an examination of the physical remains
of these vanished people to unravel clues. They may visit Roman and Greek ruins
of the classical period, Bronze Age and Phoenician settlements, other megalithic
monuments such as Stonehenge and Avebury Circle in Great Britain, as anchors to
widely recognized antiquity at the edge of history.
A bit of Hollywood is also getting into the mix. Winston Azzopardi, a producer
of the blockbuster film "Troy," is a collaborator on the project. As
former Film Commissioner and Chairman of Latina Pictures, Winston is more than
familiar with filming in Malta. "We are very lucky to have him on the team,"
said Eneix.
Award-winning filmmakers, MacGillivray Freeman Films has more than 40 years of
experience in specialized film distribution and has produced several hits
including "Everest," "Coral Reef Adventure," "Dolphins," "To Fly!" and "Amazon."
"It is estimated that 500 million people worldwide have seen a Large Screen
Format film," Eneix continued, "We are excited to bring a subject matter that
has received little attention to millions through this unique film experience."
The OTS Foundation is a North American link to the megalithic temples of the
Maltese islands. The Foundation maintains the largest collection of materials
related to ancient Malta outside of the islands themselves and has served as a
resource for films, television and print media in the USA and Europe. The OTS
Foundation's goals are to foster international awareness and understanding of
the importance of Malta's prehistoric heritage. The Foundation also supports
research that reveals new information about the culture that created and used
the temples.

Did you know?
- An IMAX®
screen is 4,500 times bigger than an
average TV screen?
The format relies on film that is ten times larger
than conventional film; a single roll weighs five pounds.
The 15,000-watt IMAX
projector light bulb is so
bright that it can be seen with the naked eye from the moon.
